$37,000 IN DISASTER ASSISTANCE TO WYTHE COUNTY


NOTE TO EDITORS: Federal, state, local and voluntary agencies are working in partnership to help SW Virginia residents following the March flooding. The following is the final summary of response and recovery efforts for Wythe County.


WISE, VA. – Wythe County has received over $37,329 in federal funds for roads, bridges and other public facilities affected by rains and flooding in March.


The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced the following figures on federal disaster assistance for Wythe County, as of June 1.



  • $37,329 in federal public assistance funds obligated to state and local governments.

Total federal disaster assistance for the Southwest Virginia counties of Dickenson,
Lee, Russell, Scott, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, and Wythe and the city of Norton has reached $8 million.


The deadline for registering for federal disaster assistance for the March 17-20 flooding was June 1.
