Office of Training and Exercises
The Office of Training and Exercises supports, coordinates and maintains a comprehensive, statewide program of homeland security and emergency management training and exercises . The program trains Virginia's emergency responders to prepare for, respond to and recover from natural and man-made disasters.
Key Functions:
- Emergency Management Training. Serves as the Commonwealth’s focal point for the delivery and development of emergency management training to state and local government officials, volunteer organizations and the public and private. This training includes a combination of FEMA - and state - sponsored training.
- National Incident Management Systems Training and Compliance. Provides training to ensure that NIMS principles are integrated into all preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation activities.
- Terrorism and CBRNE Training. Administers the statewide terrorism response training program to protect both the victims and the emergency personnel who responde to terrorist incidents. Develops , reviews and maintains curricula for terrorism and hazardous materials emergency response training.
- Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program – Regional Capability Project (HSEEP-RCP). HSEEP focuses on the management, design, development, delivery and evaluation of Virginia's exercise programs . HSEEP-RCP is used by the state to achieve its homeland security preparedness objectives.
- Adjunct Instructor Program. Manages a cadre of instructors and subject-matter experts throughout the Commonwealth who support and deliver emergency management and NIMS courses on behalf of VDEM. This low-cost, highly effective training partnership has benefitted all state agencies and local governments.
