The Virginia Department of Emergency Management seeks a highly organized individual to support the Technological Hazards and Finance Divisions. Duties: review and prioritize incoming correspondences; compose, proofread, and edit letters, reports, presentations, and other documents; plan and coordinate meetings; transcribe and prepare minutes; make travel arrangements and process related paperwork; effectively manage manual and electronic filing systems; order supplies and ensure compliance with procurement policies and procedures; monitor the timely submission of timesheets and reports; and assist with fixed assets. This position may serve as administrative backup for the State Coordinator’s Office. Position is restricted.
Qualifications: Comprehensive knowledge of office practices and procedures. Comprehensive knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation; recordkeeping and filing systems. Working knowledge of the organization and operation of state government. Strong knowledge and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access. Expert level written and verbal communication skills; effective organizational skills; strong decision making ability and an attention to detail. Ability to accurately record/transcribe meeting minutes; to maintain confidentiality, diplomacy, and tact at all times; to develop and maintain cooperative working relations both internally and externally. Ability to manage multiple and rapidly changing priorities simultaneously to meet organizational needs in a timely manner. Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
Preferred: Experience providing executive-level administrative support. Knowledge of the organization and operation of state government. Knowledge of the state government procurement policies, procedures, and eVA preferred.
The selected applicant will be required to undergo a criminal background check to include fingerprinting and DMV check. Position is restricted due to funding source(s). A one-year probationary period is required of all individuals newly employed or re-employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Virginia Disaster Relief Fund
How is the money distributed?
Fund proceeds will be distributed to local long-term recovery groups, members of the Virginia Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster and other non-profit and faith-based organizations as a grant.
Many of these groups work directly with individuals and families following a disaster.

The Virginia Disaster Relief Fund benefits projects that include: repair or rebuilding of underinsured dwellings, transportation assistance, replacing essential household items, helping renters establish new rental residence, temporary living expenses while recovering from loss, and more.
