The Virginia Department of Emergency Management is charged with the coordination of the Commonwealth’s emergency preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery efforts. In support of the mission of the agency, the Geographic Information Systems Program is responsible for enabling and facilitating collaboration through the use of geospatial data in order to protect the Commonwealth of Virginia and its localities from the impacts of natural and manmade hazards.
