Special Training Opportunities

As a courtesy to other agencies and to our customers, the Office of Training and Exercises may periodically post training opportunities not specifically sponsored or supported by VDEM, but still of possible relevance to our audiences.

Registration procedures, contact information and eligibility for these programs vary. Please read the announcement carefully for information specific to the opportunity.

Agencies or individuals who desire to have a special training opportunity posted on this page should email it to vdemtrainingandexercises@vdem.virginia.gov. Be sure to include all relevant information concerning the course to include registration procedures; time, date, and location; and a point of contact for student questions.

  • PA Eligibility/Debris Management Workshops: VDEM will offer FEMA's Public Assistance (PA) Eligibility and Grants Management Workshop and Debris Management Workshop as a combined offering May 21-25, 2012. Class time will be 8:30-5 each day. The PA Eligibility and Grants Management Workshop provides a comprehensive overview of the PA program and process to include discussion of eligibility in the context of applicants, work, facilities and costs; development of project worksheets; and what resource support/references are available to assist applicants in gaining a better understanding of the program and associated policies. This course will be held May 21-22. The Debris Management Workshop will provide an overview of the critical elements of debris management planning and operations to include federal, state and local roles and responsibilities, debris eligibility issues, contracting, estimating techniques and site selection and management. In addition to Emergency Managers, public works, finance, procurement and environmental officials are encouraged to attend. The Debris Management Workshop is an elective for Advanced Professional Series certification, and will be held May 23-25.

Although this is a combined offering, FEMA will provide separate certificates of attendance for each workshop. Participants may attend one or both of the individual courses. Enroll by contacting peggy.gillette@vdem.virginia.gov and providing your name, organization, email address and phone number, and which course or courses you wish to attend. Enrollment deadline is close of business May 15, 2012.
