G290: Basic Public Information Officer
Enrollment is through the Commonwealth of Virginia Knowledge Center (KC). There are two options for enrollment:
* For those who do not feel comfortable using the Knowledge Center, you may access an online enrollment form at this link. Our Help Desk will use the form to verify/create your account and enroll you in the course. IMPORTANT: If prerequisites are identified below, you must submit the prerequisites before your enrollment can be processed!
* For students who are comfortable with using the KC: if you have an existing KC account with any state agency, click here for enrollment procedures. This updated two day course is designed for the new or less experienced Public Information Officer (PIO) and focuses on essential emergency PIO functions. The course will teach PIOs how to write a news release, conduct an on-camera interview and prepare awareness campaigns. The class is a prerequisite for the Advanced Public Information Course (E388) at the Emergency Management Institute. Elective for Advanced Professional Series (APS) certification.
Prerequisite: IS29 Public Information Officer Awareness Course, available online at http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is29.asp. Submit prerequisite completion certificate via email to LMShelp@vdem.virginia.gov or fax at 804-897-6556 at least two weeks prior to course start.
