FLOOD INSURANCE WORKSHOPS TO BE HELD

WISE, VA. – In the wake of the March floods in Southwest Virginia, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials will conduct workshops on flood insurance. National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) workshops aim to promote flood insurance and floodplain management.

Two workshops will be held on May 17 in Big Stone Gap and Wytheville for lenders, community officials, real estate agents and the general public.

The workshops are designed to provide a better understanding of the NFIP. Federal Coordinating Officer Louis Botta said, “Flooding is the most common type of disaster to which FEMA responds. With that in mind, FEMA continues to reach out to communities to explain the importance and benefits of purchasing and maintaining flood insurance policies.”

Locations and times for the workshops are:

Big Stone Gap

Mountain Empire Community College

May 17, 2002 – 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Wytheville

Wytheville Community College

May 17, 2002 – 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
