HURLEY DISASTER RECOVERY CENTER TO CHANGE HOURS
WISE, VA. – Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials have announced that operating hours for the disaster recovery center (DRC) in Hurley will change on Monday, May 13. The new hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until further notice.
The DRC is located at Hurley Middle School on Route 643 in Hurley. In addition, a disaster recovery center will open Monday at the Old County Administration Building, 315 School St., in Tazewell and will have the same operating hours.
Flood victims are not required to make a personal visit to a disaster recovery center, but are welcome at any DRC regardless of the location.
Disaster assistance applications begin with a call to FEMA’s teleregistration number, 1-800-621-FEMA (1-800-621-3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585. Individuals without access to a telephone will be able to register and the DRCs.

How is the money distributed?
Fund proceeds will be distributed to local long-term recovery groups, members of the Virginia Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster and other non-profit and faith-based organizations as a grant.
Many of these groups work directly with individuals and families following a disaster.

The Virginia Disaster Relief Fund benefits projects that include: repair or rebuilding of underinsured dwellings, transportation assistance, replacing essential household items, helping renters establish new rental residence, temporary living expenses while recovering from loss, and more.
