Officials Visit Storm Damage in Cities of Hampton and Petersburg
PETERSBURG – Secretary of Public Safety Marla Decker and Michael Cline, state coordinator of emergency management, will tour the cities of Hampton and Petersburg to meet with local officials and view damage from last Friday’s tornadoes today.
An estimated 500 homes, apartments and businesses were damaged by the tornadoes that struck the cities on June 1. The National Weather Service confirmed an EF0 tornado hit the city of Petersburg around 7:08 p.m. and an EF1 tornado hit city of Hampton around 8:13 p.m. Only minor injuries were reported.
People interested in helping victims of the tornadoes can make financial contributions to local charities and faith-based organizations that are responding to the situation or to the Virginia Disaster Relief Fund at www.disasterfund.virginia.gov.
