National Preparedness Month 2012
Pledge to Prepare!
September is National Preparedness Month, an annual nationwide effort to encourage Americans to plan and prepare for emergencies.
Since April 2011, nearly every Virginian has experienced tornados or the historic Mineral earthquake or Hurricane Irene or Tropical Storm Lee or the severe derecho wind storm – or some combination of these disasters. All of these are reminders that everyone is responsible to be ready for both predicted and unexpected emergencies.
If you are not ready, you can “Pledge to Prepare” during September. Governor Bob McDonnell has issued a proclamation to encourage all Virginians to take action during National Preparedness Month.
This is the ninth annual NPM commemoration. Families, individuals, businesses, and public and private groups and organizations can join the NPM Coalition and “Pledge to Prepare.” Register as a national coalition member by visiting www.Ready.gov and clicking on the Pledge to Prepare banner. The goal for registered coalition members in 2012 is 12,000. Join us today!
