Governor Youngkin and VDEM to Host Kick-Off Event for the Beginning of Hurricane Season

WHAT: On May 31, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) will host a Hurricane Season Kick Off at the Virginia Emergency Operations Center (VEOC) with Governor Glenn Youngkin for the beginning of hurricane season.

WHO: Governor Glenn Youngkin (9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.)

           Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Robert “Bob” Mosier

           State Coordinator of Emergency Management Shawn Talmadge

WHEN: May 31, 2023, 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

WHERE: Virginia Emergency Operations Center: 7700 Midlothian Turnpike, Chesterfield, VA 23235

WHY: Recent years have proven that hurricanes are not just a coastal threat. Even storms that start in the lower Atlantic or Gulf States have the potential to come north and cause significant damage. This is why we encourage all Virginians across the commonwealth to take the time to become prepared.

HOW: RSVP is required for the event. Please email pio@vdem.virginia.gov to RSVP by May 26 by 5 p.m. and include the names and news agency of those attending.

* There will be time allowed for media to get B-roll in the VEOC as well interviews with VDEM staff
