Using FEMA Flood Risk Products to Better Understand and Reduce Community Risk

This event was organized by 9-1-1 and Geospatial Services Bureau (NGS)

Description

Description: Beyond the Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) that indicate areas at risk for flooding from 100 year and 500 year storms, FEMA also produces several digital products that show flood risk and water elevation for more frequent storms. These depth and analysis grid datasets can be used to assist in planning that will save lives and dollars due to flooding. In this webinar, the information will be provided by Region 5 Coordinator, Lyle Hornbaker and you will learn how to find these planning data sets, define the benefits of using the datasets in reducing communities’ flood risk, and begin to learn how to use the datasets to identify land and structures at risk for flooding.
