DATE/TIME: June 5 – 16, 2023 Class will begin each day at 8:00 am
LOCATION: York County HAZMAT/CBRNE Training Facility
503 Back Creek Road, Seaford, Virginia
DESCRIPTION: This Specialist-level course is a multi-day program of intense instruction that provides a sound understanding
of the basic chemistry of hazardous materials. Directed at the underlying reasons for the chemical behavior of
hazardous materials, the course is designed to improve decision-making, safety in operations, and handling of
hazardous materials. The class is heavily chemistry-oriented and presented in lecture format with evening
review sessions.
PREREQUISITES: Enrollment to this course is limited to 24 individuals. All applicants must have successfully completed
the Hazardous Materials Technician course a minimum of 1 year prior to the start of class and
have completed the requisite skills for Technician certification. COV regional team members
must document the completion of the requisite Technician skills by completing the VDEM
Technician Certification Application prior to applying or with the request to attend Chemistry.
First preference will be given to current members of COV Regional Hazardous Materials Response Teams.
Each team will be allotted two student openings. It is requested that each team submit applications for a
maximum of two students and one alternate.
COST: For members of COV Regional Hazardous Materials Response Teams, lodging will be direct billed to VDEM.
Meals will be on a reimbursement basis.
