Details: HURREVAC is a decision-support tool used by emergency managers to gather the
information they need to assist their evacuation decisions. The National Hurricane Program has
transitioned to a web-based version of HURREVAC, the longtime hurricane decision support tool
for government emergency managers. This comprehensive training will instruct emergency
managers on basic and advanced features of HURREVAC. It will include an overview of HURREVAC,
with interactive exercises and demonstrations to understand how to use current and new
capabilities. Background information will be given on National Weather Service forecast products,
utilized by the program. The Sea, Lake, and Overland S urges from Hurricanes (SLOSH) tool is
integrated into the new HVX platform and designed to aid emergency managers in visualizing
storm surge vulnerability.

Students who do not have HURREVAC accounts should register prior to class. To register for
HURREVAC, go to https://hvx-registration.hurrevac.com/?go=account:register and complete the
registration form. This program is restricted to government emergency management use, and
registration is only available to those with a government or agency email address. Please bring
your laptop computers to class for hands-on exercises within the HURREVAC application.

Target Audience: Enrollment is restricted to emergency management professionals from VDEM’s
Region 5 and Region 1, and State Agencies supporting the VEST. Priority will be given to those
working in these localities and State Agencies.
