Description: This one-day course is an introduction to the National Weather Service forecast
procedures and products in the lead-up to coastal threats by posed by hurricanes and other
tropical systems, with a special emphasis on National Hurricane Center operations. The course
will also cover the multi-agency National Hurricane Program’s tools for hurricane planning and
response. Topics include tropical cyclone hazards and forecast products, as well as hurricane
evacuation planning and decision-making processes.

Target Audience: Enrollment is restricted to emergency management professionals from
VDEM’s Region 5 and Region 1, and State Agencies supporting the VEST. Priority will be given
to those working in coastal hurricane risk jurisdictions.
