Break in Wintry Weather Does Not Mean Storm is Done
RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) wants to remind all Virginia residents to stay prepared and remain off the roads during this winter weather event. If travel is absolutely necessary use extreme caution.
During the afternoon of Monday, January 6, there will be a break in the precipitation across much of the state; however, accumulating snow will begin falling late afternoon into the evening. Stay vigilant throughout the next 24 hours as power may be interrupted as more snow falls and winds increase.
"While this break in precipitation is allowing road crews to continue to work to make roadways passable, any moisture remaining on the roadways could cause refreeze with temperatures dropping below freezing," said VDEM Chief Agency Spokesperson Jason Elmore. "Please limit travel unless absolutely necessary and don't have a false sense of security because this weather event isn't over just yet."

As VDEM highlights its own 24/7 readiness, Virginians are encouraged to take steps to ensure their households are prepared as well. Families should review emergency plans, check supply kits, and stay informed by signing up for local alerts and following official guidance from public safety agencies.
