RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Emergency Management are using contracted debris removal crews around South Holston Lake to remove Hurricane Helene related debris. The debris removal crews will be picking up eligible Hurricane Helene related debris in neighborhoods around South Holston Lake in Washington County. They are requesting that you separate and place your debris at an accessible location at the edge of your property now through March 17, 2025.
To ensure efficient debris removal, residents should follow these guidelines:
* Hurricane Helene related debris must be accessible from roadways.
* Crews cannot pick up Hurricane Helene related debris from gated or guarded communities that have roadways that are not accessible to the public. Crews cannot access South Holston Lake or private shoreline property.
* Do not put your Hurricane Helene related debris in the roadway, as this poses a hazard to drivers.
* Do not put your Hurricane Helene related debris in drainage ditches, as this may increase the risk of flooding.
* Do not bag your Hurricane Helene related debris.
