VDEM Announces Public Release of The Echoes of Helene – Book 1 Documentary
Film Debuts to Mark One-Year Anniversary of Helene’s Impact on Southwest Virginia
RICHMOND, VA – The Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) has announced the public release of the documentary film "The Echoes of Helene – Book 1", sharing the powerful stories of Helene’s devastating impact on Southwest Virginia. The film, beginning with chapter 1 - Inbound (shared October 10) will be released every Friday through VDEM’s social media channels.
Produced over the past twelve months, "The Echoes of Helene – Book 1" captures the timeline of response, recovery, and renewal following the storm. Through the lens of emergency responders, volunteers, and community members, the film chronicles not only the challenges faced but also the resilience and hope that emerged in the aftermath.
“This film is more than a record of a natural disaster; it is a testament to the enduring spirit of Southwest Virginia,” said VDEM State Coordinator John Scrivani. “The Echoes of Helene captures the quiet heroism of everyday people—those who care for one another, who roll up their sleeves, and who work together to restore, rebuild, and renew. We are honored to share these stories publicly as a reminder that healing is ongoing, and that resilience is built through connection, support, and collaboration.”
