VDEM Thanks Outgoing Chief Deputy State Coordinator for Her Service to the Agency and Commonwealth of Virginia

RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) would like to thank Chief Deputy State Coordinator, Erin Sutton, for her service to the agency and to the Commonwealth of Virginia. Erin formally announced her departure from the agency, which will be effective December 16, 2022. Chief Deputy Sutton came to VDEM from the City of Virginia Beach where she served as the Director of the Office of Emergency Management. She also held positions with the Virginia Beach Department of Public Health, developing the Virginia Beach Medical Reserve Corps and leading the city-wide pandemic planning effort as Emergency Planner.

During her tenure with VDEM, Erin has been a steadfast leader and innovator. She joined the agency during the COVID-19 pandemic and helped lead the agency through its largest and longest activation in state history, along with multiple other simultaneous disasters. She also spearheaded the process for creating the agency’s strategic roadmap of how we serve, how we operate, and how we build capacity. Erin has led numerous projects focused on building agency efficiency and efficacy which has improved the agency’s overall ability to support the local governments and their communities. She is a well-rounded, well-respected emergency manager at all levels of government, and we are grateful for her time and dedication to the field of emergency management and our agency.
