VDEM Announces New State Coordinator Shawn Talmadge

RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) announced today that Governor Glenn Youngkin has selected Shawn Talmadge to serve as VDEM’s new state coordinator. Talmadge comes to VDEM from the previous administration where he served as Deputy Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security and the Governor’s Homeland Security Advisor.

Appointed to the position by Governor Northam in June 2020, Brown led the agency during its most active period in history. He has served in homeland security and emergency management roles in three gubernatorial administrations

RICHMOND—Governor Ralph Northam today announced that President Biden has approved a Major Disaster Declaration for Buchanan County, after extreme rainfall on August 30 resulted in devastating flash floods and landslides.
